is Tom and Vicki. Hello. Here for another episode and today's episode the topic is swimming upstream and what we mean by that is actually to encourage you to look at all your options for your own health and wellness and your level of toxicity in your home and all the choices that you make for you and especially if you have a younger family.
explore those options and take responsibility for your choices and so advocate for yourselves yeah and and so we feel that with what we've chosen we are not going with what we consider to be the flow which is why she said upstream we're going against what we feel is the most common mainstream mainstream way of doing things for wellness and so
We're not, we don't want to come across as preaching or pushing ourselves on you. What we are simply doing is offering you a lot of potential options for yourself that have worked for us and that are working for us two adults with seven children that we raised antibiotic free. Right? Yeah. So what you may find in your research and your due diligence that you may find options that
we don't even know are in a great realm of wellness. So I just wanted to give you a brief overview on how we got to this place. Actually, right before we were married, I fell at my job and I was turning, I was a waitress, I was turning and I slipped and I fell and hurt my back and it didn't seem like the normal methods were working and I went
an acupuncturist and I got immediate relief and it was this whole eye-opening experience of wow and at that office there were some people there who had some affiliation with Home First family practice and they at the time they're now no longer
in business or however you want to call it, they actually did home birth. And I thought, hmm, that sounds interesting. And so when we were pregnant for the first time, I remembered about them and we went to see what they were about. And it was very holistic, very eye opening.
They know their stuff and they're safe.
And they also believe that a woman's body can labor and deliver a baby. It was built to do so. just to give you an illustration, with our first baby, my blood pressure was elevated and I got preeclampsia and toxemia.
And I ended up delivering in the hospital because it wasn't safe for me to be at home. it's not like- was with our doctor from home first, which was a big deal for us. Yeah. Because he was there to navigate us through that process. Right. Because we did not know that we weren't going to be birthing that baby at home until she went into labor. Yeah. As I recall. And it was, so we had to go to a hospital, but it was a hospital that would accept our doctors to work there to deliver our baby. And that's what-
happened in conjunction with one of the other doctors that was there. Right. And so that was a safe situation. The rest, the other six were delivered at home. Yep. And it was an amazing experience. Through their practice, we were exposed to the massive benefits of breastfeeding. To question the blanket giving out of vaccines to children.
to pay attention to our nutrition, to pay attention to more than... It got us out of the traditional doctor mode. I think our system, our medical system is really good at emergencies. And I love that. And I'm grateful for that. But the rest, it's a sickness model.
Yep. And so I'm not interested in being sick. So I'm looking for wellness information. And we got on this track with learning, like I said, about breastfeeding, about the dangers of vaccines, about different things that I can do to make to keep our to keep our family healthy. we had a situation with vaccines when my son got
Firstborn. Firstborn, got DPT. He had a fever of like into the hundreds and he almost died. My daughter, she had the MMR vaccine after she got that. She got a fever of over 100 for days and stopped eating and all that and almost died. I had our third child and I were sitting in the office waiting to get her vaccines and they came in, this was 20, 30 years ago.
over years ago where they were having me sign off on all the vaccines. I don't know if they do it electronically now, but we had to sign off on all the dangers of the vaccines that they knew about at that time. And I'm guessing they're double or triple the amount of vaccines that they give kids now from what they were giving back 30 years ago. And I'm looking at these and thinking, I have to sign off on
And I'm thinking about that my son almost died from one of them. My daughter almost died from a different one. Why am I doing this? Because I still had in my head the possible dangers of these, but I was just going with the flow at that point. And I guess that's the first time, well, no, because we had home birth, Rachel was delivered at home and Sarah was delivered at home. So we were already shifting upstream.
And I walked up and out of the office and they're like, where are going? I said, I'm not doing this. And I walked out and I never went back. Our next four children never had one vaccine. And they were up until the time that they left the house. Correct. So I don't know what they've done. And there are there, there are adults now, but all our children up until the age of 18 or higher, never vet. never vaccinated anymore. We never introduced drugs into their bodies for issues.
of colds and flus, we didn't do flu shots, none of that. we, we just never went to the doctor except if we had to do a physical for sports for school. if there was an emergency situation, like when my daughter blew her knee out. So yes, we went to the hospital, but we didn't use drugs there. afterwards, actually avoided a second surgery because of using a different protocol that we were able to kill all the
infection off and avoided a second surgery. So it's not that we're just sitting around doing nothing. It's that we're using alternative choices that we're going to give you a nice long list of all the different things that we've chosen to do step by step over the years that we can share with you so that you can potentially if you're intrigued, start doing for yourself. And even hearing some of these options, if some of them you're convicted like no, I'm convicted about this issue. I'm not changing.
Great, do what works for you, knowing you're responsible for the health of your family and your choices you make. Don't look at the world or the government or, you know, insurance and blame anybody. We've actually lived below the poverty level for a really long time and we never let insurance dictate a choice we make. We paid out of pocket.
to go to doctors that we wanted to go to.
we never let the system dictate or correct or that we just it was like okay you guys don't take this insurance okay then we're gonna pay out of pocket it's actually really amazing how i think people let insurance dictate what goes on with their lives and i'm not saying
You guys make your choices. Cool. No judgment. No judgment. We're just sharing. aware it's your call. You actually really do have choices even though you feel like you may not. 100%. That's actually the biggest message we want to give you. Or living proof of that. Is that, so I've got another example of my one son, second youngest son, I took him into the pediatric dentist and he needed some work done.
he had an infection in his jaw and so the doctor gave me a prescription for an antibiotic and then come back two weeks later because it was too infected for him to do any work. So I went home I never filled the prescription but I gave him so we use Young Living Essential Oils. Therapeutic grade. We I put Thieves, is one of
antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, antiparasitic. Antifungal. I did use an antibiotic. I just didn't use a prescription drug antibiotic. We use all natural product. So I swabbed it on his gums. put clove oil on his gums. put Thieves on his gums with a Q-tip. It's a blend of oils. And then we did Thieves on the bottom of his feet because there's receptors in the bottom of your feet.
So I rubbed it on the bottom of his feet every single day. And I actually think multiple times a day. He gargled with it. So we had him swish it in his mouth and spit it out. And also put it in a diffuser in the air. And we went back for his appointment. the doctor, after the appointment, the doctor saw me and I said- did his work. We went in, they did the work. Everything was fine and dandy. And I asked him, said, was the infection gone? Everything great? He said, yeah. said, well, I never told you the prescription.
But it was I mean I I only told them that after I Confirmed that everything went smoothly. Yeah, and so that's the kind of decisions you have to make Some of them are not easy. We had the situation with my daughter she tore her ACL and so she had a repair They gave her a new they gave her a new tendon. Okay, so after that
I started noticing her leg was, her knee was swelling and hot and red and she wasn't feeling great. And so I started with my, because at that point, the experience that I've had with the oils was extensive and that I just knew instinctively what to do. We, took capsules of the oil of Thieves. we rubbed it on the opposite leg because the leg that where the surgery was, was bandaged up. And there's a theory that you can use.
to mirror a joint. So we put it on the other leg. We did a whole bunch of stuff for her. And we went in to the doctor on Thursday or Friday and it was all swollen and there was a lot of fluid in there. Yet she was starting to feel better. The swelling was going down. heat wasn't like it was. And
They drained her knee, which I felt bad. It was horribly painful. But they noticed the increased white blood cells in her system. And I remember getting a phone call from the doctor saying, you need to get her in right now. We need to go in for a second surgery. And I was like, OK, now remember, doctors intensive. They know their business. And I said, I need to talk to my husband first, and I'll call you back. And we talked. And we said,
This doesn't make logical sense that I have to get her in for a surgery right now. And she's already feeling better. Right. When her knee isn't warm anymore. I had seen it and what we decided her, her system was full of white blood cells because we were loading down with an all natural antibiotic. She was over the hump. She was on the down, back end of the hill. Okay.
So she was on, she was coming out of it. So I called the doctor back. He said, you guys are making a huge mistake. I have experience in this. He pulled out all the stops of his knowledge. said, I basically gave us an ultimatum when she comes in by your next appointment. This was on a Friday that we had this conversation. If it's not better, then we're to have to do a surgery. And so we continued our protocol. So we continue the protocol. went in on Monday and she was back to normal.
Yep, and no surgery. Right. But he didn't like it, but he didn't have to do surgery and we left. We stood our ground on what we knew logically was happening to give the body a chance to heal because the body is wired to get better. To work properly. God created a magnificent machine. He did. And so it's sometimes it takes time. It doesn't happen instantly. Right. And so what I encourage you to do is to give your body support.
to do what it knows it needs to do and so that's another little story we have. My personal opinion is that a lot of MDs are drug dealers. I saw it with my mom, I go accompany her to a visit and he'd be like okay what's going on with you, okay let me give you this drug and this drug, okay what are you already taking? Well
instead of this drug, he's basically just switching her drugs every time we went in. No questioning behaviors or changes that she could make or anything like that. Perfect. was just, me give you drugs. It was very frustrating. Yes. We're not saying all doctors are that way, but boy, we've run into them. Yeah. And so my, doctors of choice are chiropractors and naturopaths and functional medicine doctors, because these people are well trained to look at the whole picture, to look at what you're eating, to look at your
energy level, to look at your movement and what you're doing and to incorporate that into and to give you support for your body to heal itself, we love that not saying we're perfect, I'm not saying I eat a perfect diet that is far from true and I'm doing the best I can.
know I can do better. everyone can always do better, yeah, but grace, give yourself grace and just do do what you can do. any little positive step forward is is is just that it's a positive step forward and not one backwards. The other thing that we've done in our home is we have an air purifier. then we also have a water purifier. So taking chlorine and fluoride like I don't get fluoride at the dentist chemicals, I actually signed papers at the school.
when they, you know how they come in, or I don't even know if they still do that. They used to come in and give the kids fluoride, free fluoride treatment. And I would sign that I did not want my kids to get that because it is poison. everybody's trying to sell their product. If you can remember that, basically, if you see it in a commercial, it's probably not good for you. Right? I mean, if there's- That's our experience. Yeah, true. we're not preaching. We're not preaching, but it's our experience and our live.
our lives. We're not a lot people look at what we say and say, man, you're lucky that your kids didn't get sick a lot. No, we worked our tails off in a different from a different angle going upstream to get them that way and keep them antibiotic free through their whole upbringing and ourselves as well. Right. I'm 62 almost 63. I was in the hospital once when I was four and a half to get my tonsils out. That's it. I have two fillings in my mouth. That's it. I
in my working career, never had to call in sick except once because I was sick and once when I hurt my leg, but I wasn't sick, but I couldn't walk. So we stay healthy because of the things we do and our body knows how to be that way. And we support it and continue to support it even now with things like, and I don't know if you're going to already bring this up, but we, we have a, we have an infrared sauna that we use. We have a cold punch that we use.
for therapy, we do oil pulling. These are all things that Vicki is gonna share information on. little bit. degree. We don't wanna overwhelm you guys. But just things that we've continued to find out about and research. We research, we don't go like sheep into it. We research it, find out about it, ask about it. And then when we decide it's something that's beneficial, we believe for us, we use it and we track it and monitor it and make sure it works. And pretty much it does because we do our homework and.
we're living proof that, you know, we can be drug free and the body loves being free of chemicals. And one thing would be to watch what chemicals get put in with by pharmaceuticals or by what you, the laundry detergent you use. my God. I can't even walk down the aisle at the grocery store or whatever store where those scents, you guys, they're like poison and we're so conditioned to them.
The things you plug into an outlet or scent, no good. That actually disrupts your hormones.
All of that scent stuff. It's all chemical. you shouldn't smell anything. Like no smell is good. Yeah. You know, Unless it's an herb or an essential oil or something like that, which has its own fragrance or aroma because it's a natural item. Right. You know, rose, when you go smell a rose, you smell the smell and it's, and it's, that's what you smell. But a rose is also when it's distilled properly.
is an essential oil that is extremely powerful in healing the body. High vibration, And bringing the body to a place of wellness. Yeah. So be careful. I get a scent-free laundry detergent. I have, do not use those dryer sheets. my god, the toxins in those. Toothpaste, deodorant. Yeah, yeah. Pick ones that like don't have Aluminum. Yeah.
toxic chemicals that are made. There's a whole bunch of different companies out there what I'm encouraging you to do is if you find a company that you really love that has, you know, stuff kind of branch out into other products. So for example, Young Living essential oils, that's how we got started. The essential oils, they're 100 % therapeutic Grade. They're a great thing. There's a couple other companies that people are saying that are as good as Young Living.
I don't know if they are. I just know Young Living. So if you have good luck with the other ones, great, great. But that oil's lead into other products. Right. And so deodorant, toothpaste, throat lozenges, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, facial cleanser, moisturizer, stuff like that. There's a company called Beauty Counter that you can look into a whole ton of their products.
There's another company called Attitude that has great hair care products, but now I've seen other things that they're also selling. So do your research, but understand that if it's going on your body, it's going in your body. remember your skin is the biggest organ and it absorbs everything. So when it's on your skin, on your scalp, on your face, on your hands, it's going in also.
would also set your intention to be led to the products. It's like you're raising your vibration. We just came across an all natural plant based fat burning supplement that is freaking amazing. It's actually a
Having he's having our daughter's having great great results with burning visceral fat while healing digestive issues healing healed my cough of four years and your acid reflux and my acid reflux all these things within Two days my three days, right? Yes, seriously. Yeah. Yeah, and so I have committed to it's just this plant-based product but
I have my feelers out all the time.
So there's two ways to look at it. You can get overwhelmed because there's so much stuff, or I kind of just have a feeler up and it's like my friend had made a post and I happened to see it and I contacted her more about it, gave myself some time to research it, looked into it more, talked to him about it. And I'm so thrilled with this thing. Superfood, I'm going to call it. And weight loss is actually
happening all the time, but it's actually almost.
It is great that the fat is burning off, but it's almost like the least thing that I'm celebrating because of all the body systems that are being affected by taking it. so we're so thrilled about that. It's so I feel like if you have that awareness, your reticulator, what is that called? Reticulator Activating System. R I S.
reticulated, reticulating, activating system. I'll figure that word out. But it causes your brain to be aware of things like if you want to buy a new car and you know that you want to buy at Toyota, all of a sudden you're only going to see Toyotas on the road. Reticulator activating system is that one? Anyway, but it's when you put an awareness to a certain thing. So if you have an awareness of, okay,
I'm going to start with my water that I drink. All of a sudden, you may start hearing a friend talk about, yeah, we have this for our water. Or you might see an ad somewhere for this kind of water, not purifying, but filtering system that purified water, just on a quick side note, means all the minerals have been taking out taken out of it.
that allow the body to absorb and process the water properly. You don't want to do that. So we stay away from purified water, but we use filtered water. Or if we purchase it in our home, we have a whole house filter so that our water is chemical free, but not mineral free because the minerals are good for our body. And we actually drink water that we add minerals to and put in the sun to create structuring structured water.
It's like all these little things you may start hearing about. So we didn't even know about structured water for a long time. And then we heard about it and started adding it in. The other thing is what's going on in your mouth, like your dental care. I wish I would have known that root canals are like really, really not good. So oil pulling is something else that I do every single morning. I take.
Coconut oil, we get the huge thing from Costco and we put it in a smaller jar and every morning we take teaspoon to a tablespoon and we put it in our mouth and when it gets in your mouth it turns to liquid and you just swish it around your mouth. Don't swallow it, it's 10 minutes. Yeah, yeah. So we just sit with it, move it around. I do it while I'm reading in the morning and stuff and then we spit it out, rinse our mouths out with really hot water, hot as you can comfortably take.
Swish it around, get that all cleaned up. And it kind of kills everything that's in there. And like I've had two or three root canals and I really believe that's why those are staying because it's like getting into, so a root canal, you're killing the root, but all of that dead stuff is still in there. So there's still a lot of bacteria in your mouth. Potentially, Potentially. And so that's one of the things we do to help.
with mouth work. And oral health is whole body health. Because that gets into all your bloodstream and all of heart disease and everything, lots of things. And that's something where there's holistic dentists that will not do a root canal That actually if you have mercury fillings, it's something you can do to have different things there. So it's all in your own timing. It's all in your own ownership.
Yeah, like you were telling me earlier there truly is always a choice. Which means there's at least one other way than what you're thinking to do something because a choice has to be at least two things and usually it's a lot more but there's always a choice. Right? Yeah and it's interesting because the more you're on a path of holistic wellness the more options that you see out there because even emotions
affect your health. That's going to be a different episode where
I could, this is interesting. I you said it's going to be a different episode. You're right. But like I was supposed to do a talk on something that I was nervous about and I got laryngitis. But that's a different episode. That's a different episode. So anyway, we would love for you to do your due diligence and work together. This is another opportunity.
for you guys to be united in what on the path on the journey that and I'll be honest this is how our journey usually goes. hear about something. I do the research and then as well she should. You're gifted in that you like studying you take notes. I took maybe two notes off the school. So not going there. I listen to podcasts and take notes like yeah it's Okay so I listen.
I do to my due diligence. And then I go to him and say, Hey, I've heard about this. What do you think? And then he will either ask questions and I'll have the answer. Or if I don't, I go back to my source or sources and I figure out the answer. And then we discuss it and like, okay, what do you think? Like we just did that with this last product. It's called PHIX. And the thing that intrigued me was about it was the headline that I saw the naturo paths.
are going crazy over this. When I hear that a naturopath is excited about something, that gets my attention because I know that they've done their work to research it and I can trust them because they're already swimming upstream with us against regular mainstream meds and I know that they have looked at it and when they're excited about it,
That is almost like, know how there's certain things you trust and I trust them and their judgment, but I still need to do my own due diligence and make my own decision and that's all on me. And so, yeah. So we encourage you guys to think about the possibilities of your overall wellness and swim upstream with.
Small steps at a time, it's all it takes. Good? Until next time, this is Tom and Vicki. Embracing love, fostering hope.
